Youth Ministries

Grades 9 - 12

The Youth Ministry Program of Our Lady of Joy seeks to address the spiritual needs of high school students. Opportunities for spiritual development can be reached through a variety of catechetical experiences, prayer services, and Eucharistic celebrations.

Youth Ministry has several distinct areas of focus, including evangelization, community outreach, and religious education.

Furthermore, Youth Ministry seeks to build community among the adolescents of our parish through social activities such as outings to amusement parks, the YMCA, ski facilities, and bowling alleys.

Schedules for Youth Ministry events are mailed to registered high school students for the Fall and Summer Semesters. Regular meeting times are Sunday evenings from 7 until 9 PM with the exception of special events or outings. For more information, contact the Religious Education Office at 412-795-4389.

Teens

Is something missing in your life? Are you bored? Nothing to do and no where to go? Why not give us a try! All teens in grades 9 through 12 are invited; you can even bring a friend. We meet every Sunday night from 7p.m. to 9p.m. n the Father Marchukonis Hall through the Fall and Spring unless we have an activity planned and then we will meet accordingly.

Give it a try! Once you do, we are sure you will want to make it part of your regular activities. This is not a boring classroom lecture series. We are teens meeting with friends, discussing issues that pertain to us and interest us. We create our own plays, have group discussions, group activities, have snacks and most of all have FUN. Teens that have attended the program in the past say, we wish we could meet longer and more often - the social activities are the best. They love the gym nights at the YMCA where they play volleyball or basketball, board games, etc., along with all the other social activities. They also enjoy discussing issues relevant to our faith.

Everything we do and talk about is based on the teachings of our Catholic faith, but we do it in a fun and creative way where the teens enjoy it. The best part of all is the feeling you get after helping those less fortunate than yourself by participating in the social service projects like the food drive or work at the soup kitchen or making stockings at Christmas for the homeless. This is what it is all about!!! And you get to pick what you want to participate in and when you participate, nothing is mandatory ever. We want you to know we are here for you!!! You are welcome anytime.

Grades 6 – 8 Junior Youth Ministry (JYM)

Junior Youth Ministry Mission Statement

The mission of Our Lady of Joy Junior Youth Ministry is to build better relationships with each other and with God through social interactions with peers and with adults.

Deep within a parent's heart exists the desire for their children to have friends with good values and the desire that they have fun with their friends. We pray that the Junior Youth Ministry be the answer to this wish within our church community.

The Diocese has worked with our core team to organize our ministry.

We ask our parish community to please pray for its success...

O Lord help us to grow in community as we become instruments of your love and care.

Especially bless the Junior Youth Ministry, Bless all our young people

May your most Holy Spirit bless this new ministry with your love and care...Amen

JYM IS PART OF THE CCD CURRICULUM

The JYM will meet once a month in place of a regular scheduled CCD class. These one a month gatherings will either be for a fun night like bowling or movies or it may be a service retreat where we may do something like volunteer at the soup kitchen or participate in the love walk for the poor.

Please check the activities and events page for upcoming activities events.
